Purchaser - Residential Construction

We are seeking a Purchaser to plan, manage, and coordinate all activities related to the sourcing and procurement of company materials. This position is responsible for controlling costs by minimizing unnecessary stock and building mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers so that the entire supply chain works in a cooperative way.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish reliable and cost effective sources for building materials and cost reduction strategies
  • Assist production and plant operations in purchasing raw materials and maintenance and repair parts
  • Establish supply schedules and communicate requirements to relative stakeholders and ensure all essential supplies are available when needed
  • Co-ordinate with accounts payable to ensure best payment terms with vendors
  • Review or update supply chain practices in accordance with newer or changing standards
  • Select transportation routes to maximize economy by combining purchases and shipments
  • Assess appropriate material handling, inventory requirements and limitations to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service
  • Appraise vendor manufacturing ability through on-site visits and measurements
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, performance feedback, production forecasts or changes
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify or qualify new suppliers
  • Develop and implement procedures and systems to evaluate or select suppliers
  • Analyze information about supplier performance or procurement program success
  • Assist in developing warehousing strategies for production materials or finished products
  • Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such as product cost or quality
  • Participate in the coordination of engineering changes, product line extensions, or new product launches to ensure orderly and timely transitions in material or production flow
  • Develop procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas, such as sales, marketing, finance, production, or quality assurance
  • Design or implement supply chains that support business strategies adapted to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies
  • Identify opportunities to reuse or recycle materials to minimize consumption of new materials, minimize waste, or to convert wastes to by-products
  • Assist in obtaining pricing and estimations for sales department
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager


Position Requirements

  • Degree or college diploma in business, operations management or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, preferably in engineering or estimating purchasing with a building firm in wood frame construction
  • Professional CCCA, SCMP, PMP designations or equivalent is an asset
  • Working knowledge in supply chain management methodologies and inventory management and ability to identify areas of improvement
  • Excellent communication skills in English both written and oral and ability to effectively communicate with suppliers, vendors and co-workers at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent procurement and purchasing negotiation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and experience with complex transactions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and continually adapt to change
  • Excellent time management to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and knowledge of ERP software an asset


Job Details

  • Schedule: Full-time Monday to Friday
  • Expected Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Salary will be determined upon candidate experience
